Case Study: Richmond Retirement Village Advocates Mangar Camel

”What I particularly like about the Camel is that we can just grab it and run.” Richmond Village is a five star, luxury retirement village in Northampton, where guests can select from a range of accommodation choices, including apartments for independent living, assisted living apartments and care home bedrooms. Ekamove

Mangar’s Ekamove is a sensor controlled patient positioning system, designed to gently and quietly turn patients to any angle between 0 and 30 degrees without the need for a healthcare professional to be present. To help reduce the amount of time spent turning patients, the system can be individually adjusted to meet the needs of the patient requiring care.

The Ekamove works when placed under a mattress and is used by inflating the air chamber system, which slowly and safely lifts the person lying on it, bending with the contours of the patient’s body.

    Benefits of the Ekamove

The Ekamove can have multiple benefits for both patients and healthcare professionals.

For patients, the Ekamove is able to provide pressure relief and helps with the healing of any pressure wounds they may have. The system is non-intrusive and extremely quiet, therefore welcomed by people in pain as it allows them to sleep soundly without interruption of manual handling from nursing staff.

For Local Authorities, the Ekamove limits the need for manual handling and reduces the overall risk of injury to carers. It offers a range of flexible turning options, giving healthcare professionals full control over patient care, tailoring it to their individual needs. This individual data can then be accessed over and over, as the Mangar Ekamove is backed up by a system and all patient turning data is tracked on a memory card.

Overall, The Ekamove helps to save time for the care team as once everything has been programmed the rest of the process can be automated.

    Who can use it?

The Ekamove is designed for use by patients whose disability or illness means they must spend long periods of time lying down, or those who cannot change their position when lying down themselves. This could be people with pre-existing decubitus ulcers, people with a moderate to high risk of decubitus ulcers or people who have suffered a stroke with partial paralysis.

    Features of the Ekamove

    • The Ekamove is universal, meaning it can easily be integrated into any healthcare bed with side protection
    • The air chamber inflates between 0 and 30° within a six-minute time frame
    • Dwell times can be set between 10 minutes and 2 hours
    • It is easy to clean with medical wipes and the inflatable air chamber comes with a washable protective cover
    • It’s easy to use and allows individual programming
    • The Ekamove is designed to tilt the body without initiating a roll
    • The system emits low-level noise
    • It can turn patients weighing up to 300 kg
    • The system is safe and will recognise any irregular movements, prompting an alert to the control unit if staff attention is required
    • In case of emergency, there is a quick air release that can be activated
    • There is the option to interrupt the system when one to one patient care is required
