    Ekamove

The Ekamove, an automated patient positioning system, is designed to gently and quietly turn patients without the intervention of a healthcare professional. The sensor controlled system is placed underneath a mattress and as the air chamber system slowly inflates, it laterally lifts the person lying on it.

    Benefits of the Ekamove

There are clear benefits for both a patient and NHS caregiver when using the Ekamove. The patients, for example, will benefit greatly from the real pressure relief and the healing of any pressure wounds. The non-intrusive system is incredibly quiet, allowing them to sleep soundly without any intervention or manual handling from nursing staff.

For healthcare professionals, the Ekamove limits the need for any manual handling and therefore reduces the risk of injury from lifting.

It also offers a wide range of flexible turning options, giving care professionals full control over patient care. These flexible options are then backed up by a system which tracks all patient turning data on a memory card, saving time for the care team as once it is programmed everything is automated.

    Who can use it?

The Ekamove is designed for those who suffer from a disability or illness that means they have to spend long periods of time laying down, or for those who struggle to change their position when they are lying flat.

    This could include:

    • Patients with pre-existing or moderate to high risk of decubitus ulcers
    • Patients who have suffered from a stroke with partial paralysis

    Features of the Ekamove

    • The Ekamove can easily be installed onto any healthcare or hospital bed that has side protection
    • It inflates between 0 and 30° in six minutes, meaning it is a slow and safe process for patients
    • The dwell times can be set by carers for any time between 10 minutes and 2 hours
    • The air chamber can be cleaned quickly and easily with medical wipes
    • The control unit allows individual programming for each patient
    • It’s incredibly safe as the it is designed to tilt the body without initiating a roll
    • The system doesn’t emit high levels of noise
    • It can turn patients weighing up to 47 stone (300kg)
    • Any irregular movements will be picked up by sensors within the Ekamove, sending an alert to the control unit if urgent attention is needed
    • If there is ever an emergency a quick air release system can be used
